Biochemical and Biotechnology

Biochemistry is the study of chemical processes that take place in all the living beings. The research occurs in the molecules of cells of animals, plants, and other organisms. Biochemists try to determine the structures of hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen found in chemical compounds and to establish their biological functions.

All organisms contain carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, proteins, minerals and water that play a role in a cell’s growth and maintenance. Biochemists study large protein molecules called enzymes, which speed up chemical reactions in living matter and identify them along with investigating the mechanism.

Biochemical research involves chemical substances that help regulate metabolism(process by which organisms transform food into energy and new tissues). They also seek to determine the precise role in metabolism of DNA and study the hormones produced by various parts of organism.

Biochemistry explained the laws of genetics, through the study of DNA present in the nucleus of a cell. DNA carries hereditary information from one generation of cells to the next. Biochemistry has contributed to the study of photosynthesis(plants convert sun’s radiant energy into chemical energy of carbohydrates).

   Biochemistry’s contribution-

      1. Doctors diagnosed disease of the bones and liver from the  knowledge of enzymes.
      2. The discovery of antibodies.
      3. Better understanding of cancer and trying to develop cures.
      4. In agriculture, crops of high quality and yield.

Biotechnology-

Is a term for  techniques of managing biological systems for human benefit. Biotechnology has important applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and other fields. The best known form of biotechnology is genetic engineering which involves altering an organisms genes.

Scientists have transferred to bacteria the human gene that produces insulin-a hormone that regulates the body sugar. The bacteria then produces insulin which treats diabetes.

However biotechnology has generated public concern and questions of morality of interfering with the hereditary makeup. The ethics and safety of the uses of gene altering has caused unease about its harmful effects. Hence many countries regulate biotechnological research and its products, while scientists follow safety guidelines to guard against their accidental release.

The research in Biochemistry and Biotechnology encompasses a broad spectrum of knowledge and requires an extensive almost religious study. Their contributions to the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, physics has stretched the human scientific comprehension. Although both being interesting and novel fields of study yet assignments in these subjects can be uncompromisingly tough involving a wide and varied research. Hence comes in EDULINK a form of a savior from the arising levels of stress, disappointment and a painful questioning of one’s aptitude. It prevents failures to surface and crust-over the disgruntled dreams and desires.
